Brooke Jackson Edmond
Brooke Jackson Edmond is the Chief Executive Officer of the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation (MJYF). Based in Atlanta, Georgia, The Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation is a teaching foundation that provides high school students with the foundation for a lifetime of leadership and community service. The Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation provides a nine month Leadership Academy program for junior and senior high school students and quarterly programming at Maynard Holbrook Jackson High School. In its twenty years, The Leadership Academy has taken over 300 students through an in-depth experience that changes, for the better, how the students approach their lives and their roles in the community. At MJYF, Brooke's focus is on strategic planning, program development and fundraising.
Brooke is one of three founding principals of Jackmont Hospitality, Inc. Headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. Jackmont is a comprehensive foodservice management company. Jackmont is an award winning T.G.I. Friday's franchisee, operating 18 restaurants located in Atlanta, Columbus, Georgia; Silver Springs, Largo and District Heights, Maryland; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Greenville, South Carolina; Miami, Florida and Washington, DC. With a professional background in construction and hospitality services, Brooke has over 20 years of professional experience in the food and beverage arena. She has successfully managed the development and construction of several new restaurants, including Jackmont Hospitality's first T.G.I. Friday's location – a $1.3 million restaurant at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and numerous other brands and locations. Currently, at Jackmont, Brooke's focus is on strategic planning and community relations. Brooke and her Jackmont partners are excited to see the partnership between MJYF and Jackmont grow. She is committed to ensuring that Jackmont is a contributing member of the Atlanta community. Brooke earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Spelman College and has studied at Cornell University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Brooke has enjoyed the benefit of valuable advice from her father, the late Mayor Maynard H. Jackson. He taught her to…"Always fully participate…be honest in every situation… lead with authenticity and integrity…do the right thing." Through the wisdom he instilled, she has adapted her own trusted formula for success – believing it is best to work hard and keep quiet until you have something to say. Brooke is an involved member of the Atlanta community. She is a board member of the Atlanta Convention and Visitors Bureau and the High Museum of Art and is an active Jack and Jill mother, serving in the Atlanta Chapter. She enjoys being engaged in politics and served as a co-chair of the 2006 gubernatorial campaign for the former lieutenant governor of Georgia. Brooke successfully co-chaired the 2010 National Black Arts Festival Gala, the organizations largest annual fundraiser. She has also participated in fundraising initiatives for Jack and Jill, Paideia and Montessori Intown. Ms. Jackson Edmond and her husband, Dr. Roderick Edmond, attorney-at-law, reside in Atlanta. They have five children, Holman, Clark, Hayes, Brooke Lee and Cassandra Elizabeth. They are members of Ebenezer Baptist Church. |
Virgil Murray
Virgil Murray is the Executive Director of the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation. Murray oversees all aspects of programming and directs day-to-day operations for the foundation. Prior to joining the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation, he served as the School Administrative Manager with Atlanta Public Schools, Partnership Coordinator for the Arthur M. Blank Foundation's Pathways to Success program at the New Schools at Carver, Program Director for the East Lake Community Foundation and Research Coordinator for Morehouse School of Medicine where he managed community-based research projects.
Murray has served on numerous boards including the Piedmont Park Advisory Board for the City of Atlanta as well as the past Vice-President of the Neighborhood Planning Unit (NPU-N). He currently serves on the board of Resources for Residents and Community (RRC) and Board of Overseers for the Ben Franklin Academy. Murray is married to Fredalyn Frasier and has one son. He has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Georgia State University and completed graduate studies in Public Health from Emory University. |
Jemia Kinsey Singleton
Jemia Kinsey Singleton is no stranger to the Maynard Jackson Youth Foundation – she is a proud graduate of the second class of the MJYF Leadership Academy and has been a volunteer with the program since 2003.
Jemia has more than a decade of communications experience in marketing, public/community relations, communications strategy, event planning, and project management. Since 2003, she has been president of Kinsey Communications, a PR firm that specializes in "creating connections through communications." Jemia has provided strategic communications counsel for a variety of clients in the consumer brand, business-to-business, and non-profit sectors through agency and freelance experience. Jemia has additional experience working at firstClass, Inc., Com-Quest Marketing, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Atlanta, and the Emory University Office of Public Affairs. A native of Atlanta, Jemia is a graduate of Emory University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) – Georgia chapter, the Black Public Relations Society (BPRS) – Atlanta chapter, the Metro Atlanta Kiwanis Club, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Jemia serves on the board of IMAGE Programs, Inc. and is a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church where she serves as a Trustee and a Youth Advisor. She is married to Dowud Singleton. |
