Arriving in China on the first day was unbelievable due to having the ability to discover another country and study their culture in their society. Knowing that what I learn will be true forced me to work harder to master what it is that I am learning. For example, during my stay in China, I began to learn the Chinese language. I also learned a lot about Chinese politics from my host family which will help me in the future as I plan to study political science in the future. A 老是 (teacher) of Shaolin Martial Arts not only taught my group and I 3 routines but also helped me to better myself through self-reflection and yoga. In the Chinese bridge summer camp, I was able to connect with students from not only around the US, but around the world. I’ve built bonds with many Chinese students and American students. Not only have I been able to succeed in taking the first step to learn Chinese language, but I plan to continue to study Chinese language so that I would be able to apply it to my future and career. The Chinese Bridge summer camp has exceeded in more than creating an experience for high school students, but has created worldwide understand of culture and society.
