One night of celebration doesn’t come close to the 70 years of civil service Dr. C.T. Vivian has freely and tirelessly given to this country, but we’re humbled to have celebrated such a night!
Dr. CT Vivian is a remarkable man who has faced the trials of fire and has navigated the turbulent rivers of injustice for the sake of equality. On July 29, 2019, MJYF was honored to be part of his momentous 95th birthday and celebrate his great accomplishments and contributions to the world. We engaged with thoughtful speakers, beautiful and resound musical selections, moments of reflective hardships and comical relief.
We also delved into delicious food and comradery with many C.T. Vivian supporters in the Atlanta area.
Like Maynard Jackson, C. T. Vivian was a “people first” leader who served to better the conditions of minorities and humanity at large. Not only were we in the presence of a legend, we also had the privilege to be in the company of Andrew Young, Joseph Lowery, Keisha Lance-Bottoms and many other leaders in this country.
This celebration reminded us to continue our stride in developing leaders among our community. Our MJYF students and alumni that were present basked in the atmosphere of sacrifice, patience, love and determination. With the spirit of CT Vivian pulsing all throughout Atlanta, we’re confident that the future of this city and world has immense hope.
