Discipline. Strength. Grace. Three characteristics all Kung Fu boxers must obtain. While I was abroad in Henan, China for a 10-day camp, I learned many life long lessons, and the most important lesson learned came from my Kung Fu instructor, Xiao Wei. When performing Kung Fu, he demonstrated discipline by executing his movements precisely, displayed strength with power in his swift punches, yet also remained serene by balancing all his might and energy all on two fingers. This beautiful blend of traits and technique results in a wonderous art that I could very much relate to my everyday life. Whether it be sports, doing homework, or simply cleaning up my room, I can remember that I too, can accomplish these tasks with a certain level of aesthetics and beauty. Kung Fu parallels to life because Kung Fu is indeed a way of life. With Kung Fu comes a special diet, a specific regime or set routine of practices and workouts, concentration, abstinence, and sometimes even some stress; however, overall Kung Fu is worthwhile because it molds people into successful beings who obtain… discipline, strength, and grace.
