Today we went to visit the Shaolin temple. Here we saw real life monks. This was a very cool experience to me and probably my favorite historical site that we visited. In the Shaolin Temple there was a sense of serenity. The whole time I was there I thought about how content the monks seemed with their need-based living. Their silence was truly golden and intriguing in a weird way. It made me wonder if they wish they could speak or if they were comfortable with the silence they were sworn to. The monks were by far my favorite group of people to see in China. Their way of living was very intriguing. It made me think about all of the things I think I need to be content. I will take this experience home with me and learn to be content with less.
Also, at the Shaolin temple, I bargained for the first time. There was a bracelet that I got for more than half off! I also donated to the temple and received two free bracelets blessed by monks. All in all my day was awesome, despite the smoldering heat and the excessive amount of pictures taken of me from the natives.
